Hundreds of thousands of Los Angeles County residents live near oil and gas drilling sites where toxic, health-threatening pollutants are released into the air, water, and soil. Numerous studies link proximity to oil and gas wells to health impacts including cancer, premature mortality, asthma, and other respiratory ailments. We must protect our communities and our planet, which is why we call for an end to drilling where we’re living.
 

The Passing of Emil Lawton

On September 25, 2020, the Sierra Club lost one of its legendary leaders. Emil Lawton passed away at the age of 97 after a long and fruitful life, much of it centered around the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Virtual Scavenger Hunt 2020

Last September the Angeles Chapter and Team Sierra put on the first-ever City Hike: LA. 115 participants from the Greater LA and OC area hiked a collective 500+ miles through Koreatown and DTLA, raising an incredible $27,000. This year, however, we found ourselves in a very different world – one in need of community and restoration. With people unable to get outdoors due to wildfire smoke and a global pandemic, we still wanted to come together, have a little fun, and learn more about our community and our planet.

The annual Angeles Chapter elections begin Monday, October 5, and end Monday, November 9. Active members will be voting for

  • At-large positions on the Angeles Chapter Executive Committee,
  • Members of the Executive/Management Committee for their Regional Group in the Chapter.
