Happy holidays! Whether we observe Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or the Solstice, most of us think of this time of year as the Season of Giving. And if the merchants and the media had their way, Season of Giving would be synonymous with Season of Spending. But as Carol Henning points out, there are other, better, kinder-to-the-planet-and-ourselves ways to show generosity at this time of year.

Chapter Members Participate in National Diversity Conference

Several members of the Angeles Chapter recently participated in the inaugural Breaking the Color Barrier in the Great American Outdoors conference in Atlanta. The conference, which was held September 23-26 at the Hilton Atlanta Airport, focused on increasing diversity in all types of outdoor-related activities.

Al Mader, a former hike leader for Crescenta Valley, died Thursday August 13, 2009. Al was 80 years young. He and his wife Suzanne were living in the Seattle area since leaving Los Angeles 4 years ago.
