Club pushes for Ballona Wetlands to become state park

More than 600 acres of land at the Ballona Wetlands is now in public hands and safe. Or is it? Title of the land did change hands from Playa Vista developers and is now owned by the state of California. But Sierra Club activists know from many decades of experience protecting Yosemite National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and many other public treasures, that the work of protecting this special place where the Los Angeles River and several other streams converge continues, only in a different direction.

Gay and Lesbian Sierrans

The mission of the GLS is to foster the purposes of the Sierra Club by making available a wide range of events for gays, lesbians, and their friends. These include a weekly evening hike in Griffith Park, ski trips, and a New Year's trip hiking in and out of the Grand Canyon, which was organized by two founding members, Susan Lucille and Steve Green.

The section was founded in 1987 and currently has about 250 members.

Senior Chapter Director wanted
The Senior Chapter Director is the top staff management position in the Angeles Chapter. As such, is responsible for advising the Executive Committee and directing the staff in implementing all programs of the Angeles Chapter. Position reports directly to the Executive Committee through the Chapter Chair. Deferred giving and major gift fundraising are top priorities for this position. The Senior Chapter Director is responsible for managing all Chapter staff.

The Angeles Chapter Conservation Committee has recently set up a Geographic Information Systems Committee as one of its subcommittees. The purpose of the GIS Committee is to provide mapping and other GIS services to conservation entities. I am the chair.

Chapter hires conservation coordinator Jennifer Robinson joins staff

The Chapter has hired a Conservation Program Coordinator. Jennifer Robinson, 32, was hired last month to take the place of Johanna Zetterberg, who left in July. Robinson will be responsible for helping volunteers carry out the regional environmental priorities of the Chapter. Jennifer
