Phil Gaimon, author, retired pro-cyclist, and Sierra Club supporter is once again featuring the Angeles Chapter as the only title non-profit organization at this year’s Cookie Fondo. The Cookie Fondo is one of Phil’s signature events, drawing thousands of people to the Santa Monica Mountains during the weekend of October 26th and 27th.

Coming to the West Coast for the first time, knowing I was going to be staying for only two months, I was eager to get involved in an organization that makes a difference. I am happy to say I found that fulfillment working with the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter over the summer.

Barbara Hensleigh is the chair of the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter’s Central Group, encompassing the area of West Hollywood through East Los Angeles, from Griffith Park through South Los Angeles, and several Gateway cities. She enjoys spending her time backpacking and volunteering.

Angeles Chapter Annual Awards Banquet returns after three-year hiatus

Sierra Club Angeles Chapter leaders and supporters gathered on May 1 at Friendship Auditorium in Griffith Park to celebrate its 2019 awardees. More than 100 members and supporters came together to recognize our volunteers, whose efforts to explore and preserve wild places attest to the chapter’s resiliency in the face of overlapping crises to our climate, health, and democracy. 
 

We Need Volunteers to Save the Coast of California – passions for action and law are welcome

We need volunteers with an interest in coastal issues and coastal law to commit time to rebuild our coastal conservation committee in LA and Orange Counties as part of the larger CCC Coastal Committee.
 
The Coastal Act is a great tool for protecting coastal habitats, It is only a useful tool for volunteers who know what the law contains and how to apply the law in a meaningful way when interacting with Coastal Commission staff, developers, and other stakeholders.
 

Volunteering for Invasive Plant Control in Angeles National Forest

During June and July I volunteered about 40 hours at controlling invasive non-native plants by herbicide application in several areas of the San Gabriel Mountains.  To perform this work professionally, I hold a Qualified Applicator License from CA Dept.

Toxic Communities Recap and What’s Ahead!

The Angeles Chapter staff hosted our second environmental social justice (ESJ) book club last week Wednesday, June 2nd. For this meeting, we chose Dorceta Taylor's Toxic Communities. The book draws on an array of historical and contemporary case studies to explore the controversies over racist disparities, inequities, and discrimination that affect our communities of color.
