On behalf of the Angeles Chapter, I accepted an invite to the Earth Day celebration at the residence of the Vice President. 
 
It was no small thing to commit to travel across the country for a fancy social event. However, many of you encouraged me to accept, and I was proud to represent all the good work we are doing here.

We had an incredible visit in LA with Ben Jealous, the new Sierra Club ED! We were one of the final stops on his 6 week-long listening tour of chapters, and he wanted to hear what we were proud of, and what concerns we had.

Thanks to Sierra Club members who attended the All-Orange County Open House on January 24th. Sierra Club Angeles, Swell Energy and the Solar Rights Alliance connected with local homeowners to discuss the importance of renewable energy, answer questions about the adoption of solar plus energy storage and inform attendees about the NEM 3.0 solar credit changes taking effect on April 13.

What sites or experiences come to mind when you think of “Downtown LA”?  For me, it has been hotels and conventions and getting lost driving in a maze of freeway ramps and one-way streets.  That said, I have recently signed on to help organize the 2022 Team Sierra City Hike:  LA experience, which will take place from September 23 to October 10, and features a route through the center of Los Angeles.  This experience has prompted me to change my ideas.  Scouting the route and helping plan the event has given me a whole new take on Central Group’s

Sierra Club Angeles Chapter leaders and supporters gathered on May 1 at Friendship Auditorium in Griffith Park to celebrate its 2019 awardees. More than 100 members and supporters came together to recognize our volunteers, whose efforts to explore and preserve wild places attest to the chapter’s resiliency in the face of overlapping crises to our climate, health, and democracy.

What were you up to on Earth Day weekend? Sierra Club staff and volunteers kicked off the festivities Friday, co-sponsoring an Earth Day Panel with Natural Resources Defense Council about the Inglewood Oil Field and our work to phase it out at the 30th Annual Pan African Film Festival (PAFF).
 
PAFF is the largest Black film festival in the country and is held at the Crenshaw Mall in Baldwin Hills, right next to the Inglewood Oil Field—the largest urban oil field in the country.
