The Backbone Trail, a 67-mile continuous hiking trail that winds through the Santa Monica Mountains, was completed in 2016. The Sierra Club and others worked hard for decades to make this wondrous route that runs from Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades to Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County. It passes through some of Southern California’s most beautiful ecology and scenic terrain. Now we don't want you to miss a step.

Join us for eight hikes in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area from Oct. 28 to Nov. 19 that will give you bragging rights (you'll do it all!) to having completed the entire Backbone Trail. You'll also get an up-close look at L.A.'s spectacular wild backyard. Click on the hikes below for start times and location, leaders names and contact information, and a description of the hike (mileage and elevation gain/loss).

Hikes are open to all.

Oct. 28: Will Rogers Historic State Park to Temescal Ridge

Oct. 29: Temescal Ridge to Trippet Ranch

Nov. 4: Trippet Ranch to Lois Ewen Overlook
