Let's be more conscious about water by reframing our discourse. We in Southern California are living in a permanent state of water scarcity. We have to change our mindset and think of water conservation in a different way. Think of water like a paycheck: we have to live within our means, and if we do not, we are in trouble. Yes, we might get a little downpour once in a while: this is like a bonus we should save and not waste. This little bonus is not going to do much for our lifestyle so we should save it for a rainless day.

Once Californians accept the fact that this drought is of permanent state of water scarcity, we will be able to re-adjust our perceptions and act responsibly. Start thinking of the water supply as you do your paycheck: this is all we get, it is precious, so make it last.
