Wilderness activists and other concerned environmentalists from the western United States will gather for a three-day conference April 8-11 at UC Berkeley to discuss progress and opportunities in preserving America's unspoiled public lands through wilderness designation by Congress.

Sponsors hope the Western Wilderness Conference 2010, like its predecessor held in May 2000 at California State University Sacramento, will inspire and equip activists in the Sierra Club and other environmental organizations, as well as public officials, to protect wild lands.

Sponsors include the Sierra Club, California Wilderness Coalition, Californians for Western Wilderness, Northwest Wilderness and Parks Conference, the Wilderness Society and many other organizations.

Wilderness advocates have succeeded in establishing more than 2 million acres of protected wilderness in the last few years. The April conference in Berkeley will present dozens of speakers and nearly 50 workshops, led by proven advocates, to demonstrate the tools and strategies for effective campaigns.
