The Mission of the Angeles Chapter Political Committees which includes Los Angeles and Orange Counties, is to promote voter awareness, to advocate for environmental policy change, and to support the elections campaigns of Sierra Club endorsed candidates committed to working on those changes. All three of these missions, by law, require that we raise funds specifically for the those political purposes.

Promoting voter awareness, for education only (non political) can use 501(c) (3) - tax-deductible funds. Advocating for environmental policy change (political) must use 501 (c)(4) funds which are not tax deductible. The most important work of the political program is to support the elections of Sierra Club endorsed candidates who are committed to working towards our environmental goals. For this work the political committees must raise Political Action Committee funds, or PAC money. PAC money must be contributed by Sierra Club members who have specifically contributed for this purpose.

For the next election cycle, the Fundraising Committee has designated the proceeds from the December 10-20 Tahiti Cruise to be used specifically for political action through the Angeles Chapter PAC.

The Tahiti 10-day Cruise is a repeat of the very successful Tahiti cruise last year. The Princess Cruise TAHITI PRINCESS will visit seven islands in French Polynesia offering optional day tours in each port. This is a golden opportunity to travel in a smaller, but luxurious ship to enjoy sumptuous meals, top notch entertainment, transportation and lodging starting at a very low $l095 (taxes and port charges are extra).

For information call or > email leader, Bob Thompson (818-249-1237) or request a brochure from Cheryl Wada of Montrose Travel. (800-301-9673)

Political committee members are hoping for a good turnout. Not only is this an excellent opportunity for an exciting cruise adventure, but the Chapter PAC account needs your help to prepare for the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.
