Culver City’s Stoneview Nature Center was the perfect setting for the 2019 Chapter Outings Assembly presented by the Chapter Outings Management Committee (OMC) on Saturday, October 19.  With 43 outings chairs, OMC members and other interested leaders in attendance, Chair Donna Specht kicked things off with breakfast, raffle tickets and introductions. OMC member Will McWhinney reviewed the Serra Club Mission Statement with an eye towards what this means for outings: a more inclusive approach that breaks down barriers to access the outdoors.

Morning presentations moved into high gear with Safety Chair Ron Campbell on the hot topic of the newly approved two-page waiver and what a it means for our outings programs in practical terms: creating a sign-in sheet similar to one already in use, and more. Following Ron was Leadership Training (LTC) Chair Anne Marie Richardson who reported on the recent LTC Seminar and gave everyone a look at the updated website.

Chapter Sr. Director George Watland outlined the state of the Chapter and new Communications Coordinator Magda Mendez described her role and how outings and communications can work together.

After a tasty potluck lunch, Campfire / Database Liaison Jane Simpson guided the audience through the steps to create an outing in Campfire Events and answered database questions.

Keeping everyone busy through the afternoon were several breakout sessions on topics such as Disruptive Behavior, Social Media and Fundraising Outings before Donna gathered everyone to close the meeting and distribute the last raffle prizes.

No one went home hungry.
