Recently, the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power sent its annual water quality report to its customers. But the continuing drought conditions in California have led the City of Los Angeles to initiate another round of water restrictions. The large public investments corresponding to each remind us of the great value placed on safe and reliable drinking water needed to sustain growing municipalities.

Let's be more conscious about water by reframing our discourse. We in Southern California are living in a permanent state of water scarcity. We have to change our mindset and think of water conservation in a different way. Think of water like a paycheck: we have to live within our means, and if we do not, we are in trouble. Yes, we might get a little downpour once in a while: this is like a bonus we should save and not waste. This little bonus is not going to do much for our lifestyle so we should save it for a rainless day.
We've all witnessed water abuse: broken sprinklers flooding a sidewalk, sprinklers spraying on rainy days, hoses left running. With the state of California in its third year of drought, and with imported supplies of water in decline, cities and water agencies need your help in eliminating water waste.
