For the past four years, the Club's COOL CITIES CAMPAIGN has urge cities to adopt plans for improved energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reductions. The US Mayor's Agreement and California AB 32 provided targets for such reductions. At its creation last year,the Orange County Global Warming Committee felt that a follow-up, next step is now required.

The world's leaders are meeting this December in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cutting emissions. The problem is, the draft treaty currently being considered doesn't address the severity of the climate crisis. 350--as in parts per million concentration of carbon dioxide--is the level scientists have identified as the safe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere that will support life on earth as we now know it.

When I got an e-mail saying I won an energy audit, I figured someone would come and spend an hour or two scolding us about the hot tub or trying to sell us new appliances and solar panels. It was only when I learned that the audit would take 8 hours that I started to believe it was real.
