Year after year, Angeles Chapter depends on volunteers to run its programs, lead outings, and spearhead campaigns. They are the heart and soul of the chapter. They all bring something special to the organization and we appreciate them all. And on the first Sunday in May, we gather to say thank you to those that stand out.

Interested in becoming an outings leader for the Club?

Angeles Chapter is home to one of the largest outings programs on the planet - thousands of trips ranging from beach barbecues to mountaineering expeditions.

You can take the first step toward becoming a leader by attending a class offered by the Chapter Leadership Training Committee on Saturday, April 4. The class, usually taught in Los Angeles, will take place this time in Orange County.

The Sierra Club’s Friends of the Foothills campaign recently won an important victory when the Commerce Department ruled to uphold the California Coastal Commission’s rejection of a proposed toll road at San Onofre State Beach.

Honor the Chapter Awardees for 2009 at the Banquet on May 3, 2009.

The Angeles Chapter will honor its members at the Annual Awards Banquet May 3, 2009. The event will take place at the Brookside Country Club near the Rose Bowl. Outdoor reception from 5-6 pm, followed by dinner and presentation of awards.

The Banquet Chair is Silvia Darie; the Awards Chair is Sherry Ross.

PROGRESS MADE IN FIGHT FOR GRIFFITH PARK’S HISTORICAL MONUMENT STATUS <a class=nav1 >

On Tuesday, January 13, 2009 the Planning and Land Use Management Committee of the Los Angeles City Council approved the application to designate Griffith Park as a cultural, historical monument in the City of Los Angeles. The application, filed on behalf of the Griffith Family Trust, had earlier been approved by the City’s Cultural Heritage Commission.

The application must now be approved by the full Los Angeles City Council. The City Council is expected to vote on the matter within a month.
