Federal research on climate change isn't new, but it is vital

Angeles Chapter members gathered May 5 at the Brookside Country Club in Pasadena to celebrate the achievements of some really fine volunteers. Guests mingled at the pre-dinner reception to the sounds of guitar music, engaging in friendly discussions and greeting old friends.

The National Park Service, after several years of study, has recommended a much scaled-down version of a San Gabriel National Recreation Area that includes none of the Angeles National Forest. In 1849, an eleven-year-old boy moved with his family to the United States. More than four decades later, that boy co-founded the Sierra Club and served as its president for the next 22 years. Like many great Americans, John Muir was an immigrant. It is only because he was able to take advantage of the opportunities in his adopted country that the Sierra Club exists at all.
