City of Los Angeles

Eric Garcetti
Mayor

Eric Garcetti has a proven record of leadership on environmental issues. During his tenure on the Los Angeles City Council he authored the nation's largest green building ordinance as well as the nation's largest local clean water initiative. He is responsible for legislation making Los Angeles the nation's largest city with a solar feed-in-tariff. He has created 31 new neighborhood parks in his district ensuring each resident a park within walking distance of their home. He tackled the challenge to write and pass a ballot measure to create the ratepayer Master plan, including completing the LA River Ecosystem restoration Feasibility Study to provide a roadmap for balancing ecological restoration and flood control along the River and for increasing access. He will continue to pursue green street and water capture projects in the neighborhoods along the River, increasing permeability to take flood control stress off the River. He has pledged to create 20,000 good green jobs to install and build solar, improve the energy efficiency of our buildings, and clean our water.
 
As mayor, we believe Eric Garcetti will work effectively to make Los Angeles cleaner, healthier and more prosperous. Please vote for Eric Garcetti on May 21. Your vote could make the difference.
 

Mike Feuer
City Attorney

Throughout his years in public service Mike Feuer has shown true commitment to the environment. During his tenure in the state legislature the Sierra Club and the California League of Conservation Voters has consistently rated his environmental voting records as at or near the top. We feel confident that he will honor his pledge to put a real priority on environmental efforts when elected Los Angeles City Attorney.

Jose Gardea
LA City Council District 1 (CD1)

Jose Gardea has served as Chief Depute to Ed Reyes who has represented District 1 since 2001. Although outspent 2 to 1 in the primary Gardea gained momentum as constituents became aware of his accomplishments in the district. Environmental justice is a major issue for many of the residents of District 1, and Gardea believes that land use is one of the strongest tools local government has to advance it. He has worked to create parks in CD1 and to improve the existing parks. He has innovative plans to implement more storm water capture. His knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in CD 1 is extensive.

Cindy Montanez
LA City Council District 6 (CD6)

Throughout her public career Cindy Montanez has displayed a deep knowledge and strong leadership in uplifting a district suffering from contamination and environmental justice issues. She is committed to see that Los Angeles is coal-free by 2025, and that LADWP not only is pushed to increase its renewables but to move Los Angeles away from reliance on purchased imported water. She served in the California State Assembly from 2002 to 2006. During that time she was the yooungest person ever to have chaired the powerful Assembly Rules Committee. Her legislative work focused on education, the environment, health care, and consumer/worker protection. During her first term 10 of her bills were signed into law. Cindy aims to make Los Angeles a nantional leader in clean energy and urban sustainability. We are certain she Cindy Montanez will continue her excellent record while serving on the LA City Council.

Mitch O'Farrell
LA City Council District 13 (CD13)

Mitch O'Farrell has ten years of service in the office of Councilman Eric Garcetti giving him a thorough understanding of the issues facing the 13th District. He is opposed to the Barlow Hospital residential development project, citing seismic reinformcement isisues, and he is opposed the proposed runway re-alignment at LAX. We believe Mitch O'Farrell is well-qualified to serve the 13th City Council District.

City of Los Angeless Ballot Proposition

 Proposition C - YES on Prop C

Proposition C calls for an amendment to the US Constitution to get big money out of political campaigns and to limit abusive corporate power - to overturn Citizens United. Already nine states and more than 300 cities and towns have passed resolutions calling for the ruling to be overturned.  The Citizens United decision has enabled companies, especially oil and coal companies, to pour millions of dollars into campaigns to defeat candidates who are good on our issues.

Jim has been a very politically active Redondo Beach resident working to ensure the positive character of Redondo Beach for many years. His degrees in Technical Proposals for Environment and Traffic studies and Master’s in Business Administration make him the perfect Candidate for the Redondo Beach City Council.
His demonstrated dedication and leadership in the community will prove invaluable to the Sierra Club goals and objectives. He is an asset to the community whose seat on the Council will bring informed and objective results.

Jan has been a Redondo Beach resident for 28 years. She was appointed as a Library Commissioner in 2010 by the city council because of her impressive knowledge and community commitment. She regularly attends city meetings and is up to date on current issues and concerns of residents. Her commitment to run for the Council stems from this dedication to serve the city.
 
Jan has an M.S in Business Management and Marketing. She also holds a valid CA teacher CBEST permit. Jan has a record of sincere, continuous community involvement proven through many volunteer activities in the city. She is a Homeowner’s Association president and a volunteer with the Perry Park Seniors.
Jan has been very attentive to the current Redondo Beach City growth and plans for water front development.
Her background in business and community environmental concerns make her an ideal City Councilperson.
 
Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees
 
Nancy Pearlman
Seat #6
 
Nancy Pearlman is running for her fourth term on the L.A. Community College Board of Trustees (Seat # 6).  Nancy has been an outstanding environmental advocate since Earth Day 1970, was a professor, and is quite familiar with each of the LACCD's nine campuses and facilities.  It was Nancy's leadership that resulted in the first major "green-building" program of any large institution in the USA -- and she has been instrumental in starting "Green jobs" training programs at community college campuses.  This will be a very close race, so please vote for the Sierra Club's candidate for the L.A. Community  College Board of Trustees -- Nancy Pearlman.
