Free Tree Law Workshop 10/16

Chapter Elections

The Angeles Chapter is holding its annual election of Chapter Executive Committee members. Simultaneously, the regional groups are also holding their elections for their own executive committees.

The nominees for Chapter Executive Committee are Henry Schultz, Duana Miller, Darrell Clarke, Mike Sappingfield, Mary Morales, and George Denny. The top four vote-getters will eb elected to serve a two-year term on the Chapter Excom. These four will join five other Excom members who will be srving the second year of their term in 2011.

WHAT: Angeles Chapter. Ten day trip based at Eco-Lodges in the High Barren Plains and Highland Rainforest. Our days will be spent trekking with guides to sacred waterfalls, panoramic views, some trails follow in the same footsteps as the pre-Incans. Not difficult hiking. Learn about local culture, volcanology, anthropology, see incredible wildlife, exotic birds, tropical plants and flowers. Tours will also include Quito, Otavalo Indian Market and Cotopaxi Volcano National Park.

Harwood Lodge Marks 80TH Anniversary

On Saturday, October 23, 2010, the Harwood Management Committee is hosting a day-long celebration to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Aurelia S Harwood Memorial Lodge. All Sierra Club members and friends are invited to enjoy a barbeque lunch and anniversary cake, with festivities beginning at 10:00 am. Located in the Angeles National Forest in the San Gabriel Mountains above the city of Claremont, CA, Harwood Memorial Lodge was dedicated on November 16, 1930 in honor of Aurelia S. Harwood, the first woman and the eighth president of the Sierra Club.

Beyone Coal BBQ Is Sept 19; More Meetings Near You Throughout September

It's time to move the largest municipal utility company in the country, Los Angeles Department Water and Power (LADWP), off of coal-fired power. Los Angeles gets shocking amount of its electricity (40%) from two coal-fired power plants in Arizona and Utah. This July, LADWP released a draft of their Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). The IRP will be used as a blueprint to guide the LADWP's energy policy over the next 20 years. It's a tremendous opportunity for residents to have a say in our energy future. This is a crucial phase in the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign.
