Julio J. Bermejo

We take our first steps towards exploring, enjoying and protecting the planet in our own backyards, and that's why I'm working to protect our urban parks/open space and the communities they benefit. City of L.A. parks, remaining undeveloped Montebello Hills, Whittier Narrows wildlife sanctuary for the environment, for our communities.

James Odling

Environmentalists are Parks/Open Space Advocates. Stop using $20 million Public Money to pave over historic Whittier Narrows natural area and build a water agency conference center, bad investment! Join us, learn issues, dump contracting, joint powers and trusts from controlling public lands, undemocratic! Protect open spaces!

Mary Luz Leos-Pacheco

Long Beach Group

Mark Flo

I've been a Sierra Club member for 18 years. I took the Long Beach WTC classes 10 years ago and the Angeles Chapter Leader Training. I am a O rated hike leader and also lead hikes out of Clair Tappan Lodge in Donner Pass. I enjoy hiking, kayaking, backpacking , cycling, and being out in nature. I am very interested in solar energy and sustainable environmental issues. I have had experience on several boards of organizations I belong to, and I'm happy to bring that knowledge to serve the Sierra Club.

Coby Skye

Coby Skye I've been proud to serve on the Management Committee of my local Sierra Club and hope you will allow me to continue to do so. As an Environmental Engineer, protecting the environment has always been my passion and I am proud of the work the Sierra Club is doing to 'Explore, Enjoy and Protect the Planet.'

Angelica Ponce

I'm Angelica Ponce, and I'm honored to be nominated for the Sierra Club Long Beach Group Management Committee. I am currently serving with the 1498th Infantry Division G 4 (Logistics) at Los Alamitos. During my recent deployment to Iraq with the 1498th, I ensured that the vehicle's, motor pool area, and Environmental Health and Safety records in our unit complied with all regulatory requirements. During my time with the military I have learned to protect and serve my country. I now ask you to allow me the honor to protect and serve what cannot protect and serve itself, our Environment.

Gabrielle Weeks

As a Sierra Club member for decades I am proud to have served as chair of the Long Beach Group. Locally I've been involved with projects like beach clean-ups, tree plantings, sustainability workshops and working with elected officials to shape public policy. Personally I take my carbon footprint so seriously that my husband and I converted a car ourselves into an electric vehicle. I am excited about continuing with the Management Committee. Gabrielle@WorkWithWeeks.com.

Orange County Group

Bob Siebert

I have been a Sierra Club member for over 40 years and think I can help out a few more. My passion is fighting global warming on all fronts and will work to encourage the Orange County Group to support the efforts of like-minded groups nationwide.

Donna Specht

Explore, Protect and Enjoy, Recruit, Retain and Engage: these are the words that drive our Regional Groups, Activity Sections, Task Forces and all the committees that make up the Angeles Chapter. Regional Groups play an important part in Club organization and I welcome the opportunity to work at the local level to recruit new Sierra Club members in the field and retain our dedicated members. Sierra Club membership is what makes us the largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the U.S. Remember to vote, your vote counts!

Patrica (Patti) Barnes

Being a professional musician who is passionately committed to the Club's mission to explore, enjoy, and protect the planet, I am presently serving as Chairperson of the Orange County Group Executive Committee. I am also active in the Angeles Chapter as an Outings Leader and as a member of the Banning Ranch Park and Preserve Task Force. Additionally, I promote good stewardship of our precious natural resources by leading conservation hikes for the Orange County Group and by speaking throughout the community on issues related to endangered ecosystems.

Orange County-Sierra Sage Group

Sylvia Stevenson

The Sierra Club has been a part of my life for 23 years, most of which I have participated as an Outings Leader. I find it greatly rewarding to share my favorite places so that others also may explore, enjoy, and protect them too. As a kindergarten teacher for 25 years I have had many opportunities to promote the responsible use of the Earth's resources. Now as a retired educator, I look forward to becoming even more involved with the Sierra Club.

Sharon Koch

A Sierra Club member for about five years, my active involvement started about two years ago as the Sierra Sage representative to the Orange County Political Committee. I have learned about local candidates' differing views of what is good for the environment, and to be an advocate for the Sierra Club. As a member of the Orange County Global Warming Committee, I have been an active participant in both our Juicing Orange County and Solar Powered Building decal projects. Protecting our environment, and finding new and better ways to minimize the footprint we leave is imperative. By serving on the Sierra Sage ExComm, I would work to spread the word about the joy and risk of loving our fragile world too much. I would appreciate having the opportunity to represent the members of Sierra Sage as a voting member of the Executive Committee.

John Kaiser

I joined the Sierra Club in the 1970s and became a hike leader for Sierra Sage and the Mule Pack Section in 1999. I currently serve on the ExComms of Sierra Sage (secretary) and the Santa Ana Mtn Task Force and am the Chair of the Mule Pack Section. I coordinate the Sierra Club trail maintenance activities in the San Mateo Wilderness. Preservation of our remaining open space and protection of the Santa Ana Mountains from development pressures are critical.

Patty Sappingfield

Hi, my name is Patty Sappingfield. I have been a Sierra Club member since 1990 and a Sierra Sage Member since 1992.

In 2004, I became the Treasurer for Sierra Sage. Besides holding the treasurer's office I handle newsletter circulation and mailing, food chair for Starr Ranch BBQ, co-lead outings and hikes, and am a member of the Angeles Chapter Foundation. I ask for your vote to continue to working at these jobs.

Mike Sappingfield

I ask for your support to continue serving on the Executive Committee of the Sierra Sage Group. By way of background, I have been a member of the group since 1992 and have served as Outings Chair, Group Chair and other positions as needed. I strongly support out conservation programs and want to continue to work to make the Group responsive of the environmental needs of our members.

Palos Verdes-South Bay Group

Joe Moetler

As a member of the Executive Committee I would promote the Sierra Club objectives and pursue my interest in conservation and pollution control. I am a docent at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and conduct tours and teach students about marine biology. I am a naturalist on the whale watch boats. As a docent with Los Serenos de Point Vtaente, I conduct tours of the PVIC and lead hikes at Abalone Cove, Ocean Trails and Forrestal Nature Preserve.

Phil Wheeler

As a Sierra Club Life Member, I support the mission of the Club. I've served on the PVSB ExComm for 14 of the past 19 years in several positions including Chair and am Chair of the Angeles Chapter Safety Committee Nationally, I'm a member of the Finance & Risk Management Committee, Sierra Club Assistant Treasurer and an Outdoor Activities Program Team member. If re-elected to the PVSB ExComm, I will continue active support of Club objectives in the South Bay.

Robert (Bob) A Beach

Joined Sierra Club 1964. M-rated leader (E rated Nav). WTC Leader 15 years. Member DPS, HPS, SPS. HPS list finisher. Navigation examiner 10+ years. Versteeg award recipient. PVSB ExComm Outings Chair 5+ years.

Scoutmaster 15+ years. Led 25 Boy Scout 8 day hikes in Sierras. I want to help PVSB hiking and conservation programs as a member of its ExComm.

Joyce White

My name is Joyce White. I have belonged to and hiked with the Sierra Club since 1991. I love the out of doors and as the years pass I see less and less open land. I think it is something we really need to be aware of and to try and keep open spaces and stop development I moved to San Pedro from Salt Lake City Utah in 1969. I love the mild weather here. I do not miss the cold winters and extreme hot summers. I love being able to get to the snow for a day or a weekend. I will continue to fight for open spaces I think they are so important I am running for the PVSB Sierra Club Executive Committee. I would appreciate your vote.

Kent Schwitkis

I've been a member Sierra Club member for nearly ten years. For the past several years, I've been a member of the PVSB Excomm, and this past year its chair. I hope that you'll allow me to continue in this capacity. I am quite involved in Chapter activities, which I think brings an important and different view to our local activities and governance. Specifically, I help run the chapter outings program and finances. I'm also quite involved in our club's Tejon Ranch work. I've run and overseen several hikes into the Ranch.

Pasadena Group

Pam Allen

I've been a member of Sierra Club since the late 70's and active in the Angeles Chapter as an outings leader with Wilderness Adventures since 1991 and Pasadena Group since 2000. I've served as Outings Chair for the Pasadena Group for the past 4 years (how time does fly when you are having fun!). I'd like to help the Group increase the number of activities we offer to the community and the pool of leaders participating in planning these outings.

Liz Pomeroy

I have been an active member of the Sierra Club's Pasadena Group since its revival in 1989, and have served as chair of the Group--as well as Angeles Chapter Chair. I am also an outings leader and have worked on Pasadena conservation issues. I would like to help our Group to raise awareness of environmental concerns, and to include students and newcomers in our activities.

Rio Hondo Group

Mike Bressler

I joined the Sierra Club 25 years ago and support its stance on environmental issues. I teach Political Science and my research is related to Global Environmental Politics. I and my family attempt to reduce our environmental footprint by composting, backyard vegetable gardening, and we've taken out our front lawn with the plan to put in a native plant garden. I responded to the Rio Hondo section's call for involvement because I'd like to see the section continue, and have greater effectiveness in achieving grassroots support for earth friendly policies.

Shirley Gregg

I am a recently retired teacher aspiring to become more involved in my Sierra Club chapter. A long time member of the Coyote Hills Task Force, I am currently serving as secretary. Our goal is to preserve 100% of Fullerton's remaining Coyote Hills for a park and preserve. This Coastal Sage Scrub ecosystem is rapidly going into extinction; I want future generations to encounter the real thing, not have to see it only in pictures and books. This expresses my philosophy.

Gary Sjogren

I am currently Group Chair and Secretary, and have also been arranging our monthly programs. I would be happy to again serve on the Rio Hondo Group ExComm. I ask our meeting attendees to bring recyclables, which provides income to the Group and reduces them in landfills. I publicize our upcoming programs in local media and to other meetings I attend. I also speak to other organizations about environmental, pollution and development issues.

San Fernando Valley Group

Sharon Ford

I have been an active member for about five years.

I have worked as a recreation program coordinator, and now am a Certified Recreation Therapist working with the mentally ill. I am always looking for a good hike, and plan to complete the Wilderness Training Course in 2011.

Melba Simms

I have been actively involved in the Sierra Club and the San Fernando Valley Group for over 30 years. I was a hike leader, who, along with my late husband Willis, lead many hikes and helped to found 'Sundays in the Santa Monicas,' a series of hikes taking people into various parts of the Santa Monica Mountains. I am currently serving as secretary of the San Fernando Valley Group, a position that I have held on and off for the last ten years.

Michael Stevenson

I have been a member of the Sierra Club for 35 years and am concerned about many conservation issues but particularly about the problem of Climate Change. I am a great believer in the Mission Statement of the Sierra Club. I have served as the Program Chair of the San Fernando Valley Group since 2002 and try to incorporate these Mission Statement values in the talks I arrange. I also write 'Conservation Corner' for our bimonthly Vall-E-Vents newsletter.

Santa Clarita Group

Ken Kerner

I have been a Sierra Club member since 1993, am an O rated outings leader, and have led numerous hikes and ski tours. I have been politically and recreationally active with the Santa Clarita Group for many years, and have been a member of the ExComm in the past.

Lynne Plambeck

As a Club member and activist for twenty-five years, I have focused on fighting urban sprawl and saving LA County's last unchannelized river, the Santa Clara, along with our native oaks. Through my conservation work, I have organized tours of the river, rallies, information booths, written comment letters, designed brochures and run for office to raise awareness. In 2007, I received a National Sierra Club award for my work to protect the Santa Clara River, and in 2005 I was honored to receive the Chapter's highest Conservation award for my work. Please allow me to continue these efforts with your vote.

Ray Lorme

I have served in a variety of positions for our group over the past 25 years, including chair, vice-chair, treasurer, and my current position as outings chair. We need to continue our work in Santa Clarita to preserve open space and offer various outings to the public to keep them informed.

Henry Schultz

It has been an honor to serve as Group Chair (10 yrs), Vice-chair, membership chair, political chair and publisher. I have also led 100s of hikes for the group. I am a strong advocate of open space and hope you will allow me to continue our work towards preserving the Santa Clara River, wildlife corridors and significant riparian habitat to form a greenbelt around Santa Clarita. Our group has had great success this past year. I appreciate your past support and look forward to your backing in the future.

Verdugo Hills Group

David Eisenberg

I have been an active member of the Sierra Club for many years and have held many positions. I have been active in the Hundred Peaks Sections and I have finished the List four times. I am currently the Angeles Chapter Schedule of Activities editor and editor of the Verdugo Views newsletter. I lead many trips and my hobby is photography.

Bruce Hale

I have been a member of Verdugo Hills group for over 20 years and during this time I have served as Chair (1982 1987), Treasurer (1980 2006) and Outings Chair (currently for a number of years). I lead many hikes, car camps and international trips. I have provided support for the group and welcome new members on the management committed, but we also need the proven experience, which my record establishes.

Elisabeth Roberts

I have been active in the Verdugo Hills group for 8 years and am an active leader. I also serve as hospitality chair and I help with tabling events. I lead the annual and very popular Hollywood Bowl event for Verdugo Hills. I would like to continue to serve on the board and help plan our activities.

Evelyn Alexander

I have been a member of the Sierra Club for ten years. I joined because I liked the activities and the Sierra Club positions on the environment. I felt that as a citizen it is up to me to help. In the Verdugo Hills group I have found a community of like minded people whose company and support I enjoy. I am a teacher of extremely disabled children and I believe that all children should learn about nature and its importance to our lives. I am currently program and publicity chair.

West Los Angeles Group

Howard Strauss

I have served on the Management Committee of the West LA Group for a number of years, including at one time as the chair of the Group. I served on the Angeles Chapter Executive Committee, including holding the position as Chapter Chair for 2 years. I am currently the co-chair of the Angeles Chapter Political Committee and the Chair of the Sierra Club California Political Committee. I am also an active outing leader.

Len Kleinman

I am a physician who visits the Sierra three weeks each year and hikes the Santa Monicas almost daily for my physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. I joined the WLA Group in 2000 and believe in its mission. Previously, I was a member of the Alliance Board and Westside Council Chair of the LA Natural History Museum. Public education and political action are essential to protect the wild places of our community and preserve our home on planet Earth.

Grant Rigby

I have been a member of the Sierra Club since 1973. An outings leader since 1975. And an outings chair for the past ten years. Most people are attracted to the club by our outings. So it is important that we have a well rounded outings program. We need to have hikes for the newcomers. Outings to introduce people to conservation issues. And longer trips, such as bus trips, car camps, and backpacks.

Gloria Cedrone

When I joined the Sierra Club 26 years ago, I hadn=t planned on becoming one of the 'active' members. But, in a short time, I found myself on the Management Committee of the West LA Group. As the Membership Chair, and as the Representative from our group to the Chapter Executive Committee, I was involved! In addition, I volunteered to help at the front desk of the Chapter office (I still do).

Bernadette Dollard

I have been a member for over 15 years, and have always been a strong supporter of the Sierra Club=s mission to explore, enjoy and protect the environment! I became active with the Sierra Club over 3 years ago. I began by volunteering at the front desk of the Angeles Chapter office, a great experience that led me to become involved with the new Zero Waste Committee. I look forward to helping Sierra Club with its community outreach!

Kathy Seal

I'm an activist in the Club's Beyond Coal campaign in L.A. I chair our meetings and work - on outreach to churches, synagogues, mosques, and community organizations. My aim is to build up the strength of our campaign by working to match others to the jobs that fit their skills and interests. Previously I cochaired Friends4ExpoTransit, which achieved its goal of organizing a movement to build the Expo Line from downtown to the beach. I=m impressed by the West LA Group!
