I was Elaine's backpacking partner for 2 1/2 years in Asia and Africa. We met in a small restaurant in Kathmandu where we agreed to try trekking together. Prior to Lonely Planet from late '69 til the summer of '72 we explored a close relationship with the 3rd world. We parted company in Kenya, had a brief meetup in Paris and a couple of visits to each others families herein California. Whenever I did a slide show of our travels in Africa, I always credited our success to Elaine. Neither one of us would have succeeded with the other. Rest in peace Elaine, you were the reason for our wonderful journey.
