Every Wednesday in April: Hoist a beer for Earth Day! Every beer you order from the "benefit taphandle" at Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. brings a donation to Angeles Chapter Sierra Club. It happens Wednesdays only -- and only in April -- at the Westlake Village site. Details here.

April 6: Environmental activist, author, and founder of 350.org Bill McKibben will speak at 7 p.m. at Elkins Auditorium at Pepperdine University. McKibben is widely regarded as the foremost climate change activist in the United States and as one of the most important environmental authors of this generation. April 16: San Fernando Valley Audubon Society Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Preserve Clean Up  8am-noon. Haskell Creek, where it runs through lovely Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, hosts many riparian trees and shrubs, such as cottonwoods and willows.  Songbirds forage and nest in the trees, while egrets and herons fish in this heart of the Wildlife Area.  Sadly it is infested with trash, especially plastic bags, foam cups and food containers.  Please help clean up the mess, restoring our creek! April 16: Want to learn how to kill your lawn? Sierra Club activist Jeanette Vosburg and her family will host an Open Yard Sustainability event on noon to 3 p.m. April 16 -- and you're invited. Tour two Westside homes to see how you can adapt your own yard. The free event is open to anyone who wants to find out how to replace your lawn with native plants and vegetables, how a cistern works, and what role permeable pavement can play in saving rainwater. April 16: Bolsa Chica Ecological Earth Day Festival offers free family fun from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to touch live snakes, count migrating birds, learn about pollution as well as browse educational activity booths. The festival will also include a jump tent, food sales, and guided tours of the important wetland/reserve in Huntington Beach. April 16: Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro hosts a free Earth Day Bird Fest Celebration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will feature a beach clean-up, grunion egg hatching, guided walks to the salt marsh and more. The aquarium's celebration will highlight the coastal environment and shore birds, animals most impacted by a Southern California oil spill 45 years ago. There will be bird crafts for kids, habitat walks, coastal bird walks and bird lectures from experts in the field. Click here for more.

April 16:  The 17th Santa Clarita Arbor Day Festival presented by the SCV Family of Water Suppliers is a free event held in conjunction with the worldwide Earth Day efforts of improving environmental awareness and taking care of the planet. Join in the festivities at this eco-friendly event to renew your commitment to reduce, reuse, and recycle to protect and preserve our environment. April 16: The City of Glendora's Earth Day Festival features a community bike ride in the morning, an animal magic show, a demonstration on how to reuse rainwater, a session on California's drought, a workshop on gardening and composting and more. April 17: John Muir Birthday Hikes sponsored by Sierra Club Angeles Chapter. Muir was born April 21, 1838. Each year the Chapter celebrates with a series of rendez-vous hikes  in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area that commemorate the life of the Sierra Club founder who persuaded presidents and America to protect its wildlands forever. April 21: Earth Day @ CSUN is a cigarette clean-up where anyone wishing to participate will recieve a free T-shirt, gloves, collection bag, and drinking water. April 22: Party with us for Earth Day! Join us for a special evening at G2 Gallery at 1503 Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice. April 23: The LA Sanitation Earth Day is a free event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hansen Dam Recreation Park, right next to Discovery Cube Los Angeles. It will be a fun family-friendly event focused on sustainable living.
