Trip Reports
Whether the SCCC outing is an urban walk, a wildflower hike in the Santa Monica mountains, a Mojave desert car camp to observe first and last light, or a Sierra backpack for total wilderness immersion, it will be scouted and lead by two or more experienced photographers. Many of our trips are recurring outings to favorite, proven locations, but we also like to explore new areas. Sometimes we invite local naturalists and take advantage of other resources.
Our leaders have completed the Sierra Club's leadership training course with first aid and CPR training. They have successfully completed provisional outings under the observation of qualified leaders. They are backed by years of personal experience and SCCC history. SCCC leaders want to make each outing the best possible with great photos at the end to prove it.
Our hikes and backpacks are typically "photo-paced" allowing participants ample opportunity to capture the best images. We try to be at the right locatons in the right light. Our camping trips usually include a social hour around snacks, dessert or a campfire to swap stories and photo ideas. We often follow the outing with a reunion to look at photos.
Group-size is limited to a manageable number of photographers and friends. We evaluate each participant for fitness relative to the level of strength and stamina required by the outing so that, in the end, we can report "a good time was had by all."
NOTICE: In order to participate in a Sierra Club outing, you will need to sign a liability waiver. If you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to attending the outing, please see forms.
NOTICE: In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make voluntary carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.
