Salute environmental champions at Chapter's 2013 Political Leadership Awards
Come meet political advocates and honorees from Orange and Los Angeles counties on October 20. The Angeles Chapter PAC will present the 2013 Political Leadership Awards to a select group of public officials dedicated to preserving and protecting the environment. Join us at Original Mike’s, 100 South Main Street, Santa Ana from 2 to 5 p.m. as we honor former Fountain Valley Mayor Gus Ayer (posthumous), Huntington Beach Mayor Connie Boardman, Los Angeles City Councilman Jose Huizar, California State Assemblywoman Holly Mitchell and Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
The above honorees will join outstanding past awardees who understand the value of a protected environment and blaze a trail for increased action and awareness for conservation efforts. These environmental warriors listen to their concerned constituents to bring necessary change to the political atmosphere and fight for the environment. This year’s honorees have been exceptional in their battle for the protection of Orange County and Los Angeles County’s invaluable environmental assets.
Original Mike’s is located in what was Santa Ana’s first Buick-Horseless Carriage auto dealership built in 1919. Renovated, after being abandoned for 20 years, the event center now houses numerous rare antique vehicles, including Santa Ana Fire Engine No. 1. The creative reuse of this building is part of the revitalization of downtown Santa Ana. Join us for an afternoon of tasty hors d’oeuvres, beverages, good company, a silent auction, and the opportunity to thank our public officials for their support of the environment, and to encourage them to continue to do so.
To ensure individuals like our honorees keep their political positions and the power to continue to protect our environment, we need your support! Funds raised go toward PAC contributions and political activities to help elect pro-environmental candidates to public office and to ensure the attainment of the Sierra Club’s environmental agenda. The Sierra Club relies on concerned individuals who understand the importance of protecting our environment. This committee looks to lead that conservation effort through political channels, but those goals require a constant flow of more volunteers, more aggressive advocacy programs, and increased fundraising. We can accomplish our goals with your financial help and support for strong grassroots organizing and a shared tradition of activism.
Info: Individual tickets cost $45. Checks should be addressed to Angeles Chapter PAC, and mailed to S.L. Koch, 4250 Park Newport, #409, Newport Beach CA 92660. Sponsorships are also available. For additional information, email Sharon Koch, Chair, Orange County Political Committee.
