Get to Know Angeles Chapter Chair, Dyana Peña

Dyana Peña, the former Angeles Executive Committee Vice-Chair, was elected to serve as the Angeles Chapter Chair in January 2022. Two of her priorities for this year are reinvigorating the chapter’s outing program and bringing more joy to the nitty-gritty work of protecting the environment.

Dennis Loya Stepping down as Chapter Chair, Welcome Dyana Peña as new Chair

In mid-September, chapter chair Dennis Loya resigned from his committee positions, including his role as chapter chair. Citing an increasing workload in his day job and the increasing stress of chapter responsibilities, Dennis felt it was in the best interest of both his family and the chapter to step back and better focus on health and family.

Local Angeles Chapter Volunteers Gather for the First Time Since COVID Lockdown to Celebrate National Awardees

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the Angeles Chapter held an in-person awards reception for local leaders who have received national awards this year and last year Saturday evening at the One Park Plaza Garden on Wilshire Boulevard. Approximately 25 people came out to the small, informal gathering to mingle, celebrate the accomplishments of the awardees and give them their physical awards.

The 20s and 30s Section is a group of 20 and 30 somethings interested in meeting new friends in the greater Los Angeles area while enjoying the outdoors through hiking, camping, backpacking, beach-combing, playing volleyball and other fun experiences.  We like to have fun, but we also want to stay safe. For that reason, each hike is reviewed by our organization before posting to make sure there are at least two qualified volunteer leaders trained in CPR and basic First Aid are involved.

Please be advised that the Angeles Chapter Annual Awards Banquet honoring the 2019 Awardees for outstanding volunteer achievements has been canceled for Sunday, May 2, 2021. The recognition for 2019’s awardees will be carried forward to the next Chapter Awards ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 1, 2022
 

ExComm Officers Bulletin

As it does each year, the Executive Committee of the Angeles Chapter has named its officers for 2021. 
 
Electing Dennis Loya as Chair—Dennis’s immediate priorities are reopening outings safely, and growing membership. 
 
Electing Dyana Peña as Vice-Chair, with Marcia Hanscom appointed as Assistant Vice-Chair.
 
Electing Jason Islas as Secretary, with Lynne Plambeck appointed as Assistant Secretary.
 
Cherry Postic was re-elected as Treasurer.
