Desperately Seeking Irene(s)
Chair, Angeles Chapter History Committee
The Chapter History and Centennial Planning Committees are looking for a few good Irenes.
Angeles Chapter volunteer extraordinaire Irene Charnock began donating her time and talent to the Chapter in the late 1930s. And she kept at it into the 1970s. By then she had largely given up her turn at chores in the chapter office, but she remained quietly at work in the background in her unofficial role as historian/archivist for the Angeles Chapter. Long after the chapter office had moved out of the Philharmonic Building overlooking Pershing Square, Irene retained the office that had been next door (using her own funds), to store papers, ephemera, historic photographs, committee minutes, and everything that she could lay her hands on that pertained to the history of the chapter. These materials form the core of the Angeles Chapter Archives.
We are looking for new Irenes-volunteers to lend a helping hand in organizing the events and activities in commemorating our glorious century in Southern California. Please read through the following volunteer descriptions and if the spirit of Irene is awakened within you, contact Bob Cates.
