Inspiration on the agenda for September's Sierra Summit

There'll be something for everybody when Sierra Club holds its first national convention at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco for four days in September. All Sierra Club members are encouraged to attend-either as an official delegate or as an interested participant.

Why a Sierra Summit? The 3,000 members expected to flood San Francisco will send a strong message that the environmental movement is healthy and robust. Full Sierra Club grassroots representation is expected. This is your chance to network with other members and chapters from around the country and to give input on the future direction of the Club. Members from around the country will meet face-to-face to discuss core issues, share ideas, strategize on the Club's needs, resources, and goals.

What's scheduled? Leading keynote speakers and celebrities, such as Robert Kennedy Jr., will energize and inspire us to organize and mobilize for the work ahead on issues crucial to all of us, and we will celebrate our accomplishments. Chapter, committee, and task force representatives will have the opportunity to share their work at 'Sierra Showcase' sessions with posters and displays. More than 60 educational workshop sessions will be offered from nature photography to environmental advocacy strategies. An exhibition hall will showcase hundreds of the latest outdoor adventure and environmentally sensitive products and technologies.

There's plenty of time for fun as well. Walking tours before, during, and after the Summit will introduce us to some of San Francisco's historic sites, including Angel Island, the Marin Headlands, Golden Gate Park, California Academy of Sciences, and more.

How do I sign up? You can register for the entire Summit, or for one or more days.

Angeles Chapter volunteers are putting a package deal together for the entire Summit that will include round-trip deluxe bus transportation, some meals, and accommodations. Please contact Sherry Ross (chlross-at-yahoo.com, 562-429-6953) or Joan Jones Holtz (jholtzhln-at-aol.com, 626-443-0706) for the package details, or if you are interested in becoming a Chapter delegate, or just want to take part as a participant.
