You can green your neighborhood, make it safer to walk in, and more. Cool Block teams will meet, discuss, and implement sustainability concepts on topics related to energy efficiency, water conservation, emergency preparedness, and more.  It’s up to you to decide with your neighbors based on your community's unique needs. This is why the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter voted to support the City of LA, and City of Irvine's Cool Blocks program. We would like to recruit you, if you live in LA or Irvine, sign up as a leader for your block.

We need volunteers with an interest in coastal issues and coastal law to commit time to rebuild our coastal conservation committee in LA and Orange Counties as part of the larger CCC Coastal Committee.

The Coastal Act is a great tool for protecting coastal habitats, It is only a useful tool for volunteers who know what the law contains and how to apply the law in a meaningful way when interacting with Coastal Commission staff, developers, and other stakeholders.

“Sweat or pay” was my fair ask of fellow volunteers.

But for the severe financial impacts that COVID has brought to nonprofits, I’m asking proud Sierra Club members to pay a little extra. Here’s why.

Call for Angeles Chapter Executive Committee Candidates

The Sierra Club Angeles Chapter nominating committee is looking for members from sections and groups across the Chapter to run for the chapter Executive Committee (ExCom).  We are striving for the Angeles Chapter leadership to reflect the diverse membership and population of the Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We believe that environmental injustice/climate change disproportionately hurts the most marginalized people in society — including people of color, people from working class backgrounds, women and LGBTQ people.

Trash Talk Saturday: L.A.’s historic South Park is a little cleaner now

“There’s too much trash in the parks! Let’s do something about it." That’s what Mathieu Bonin, local Sierra Club activist, said recently. Starting in January, he’s organized three monthly litter collections in 2021 already. The latest was at South Park in South Los Angeles. Six of us grabbed our grabbers on a bright day in March and cleaned up lawns, flower beds, and bushes, or just called in. It was a meeting in the field using phone headsets and a conference call line.

In the early 1970’s, Angeles Chapter outings folks saw a need to standardize training and safety management for its hugely popular - and growing - outings program. The result was a first in the Sierra Club: a Leadership Training Committee (LTC), to train candidates, and a Safety Committee to develop policies, grant ratings to leaders and investigate incidents.

Get involved with the Angeles Chapter this Earth Day

This year's Earth Day is unlike many others. We can't gather together to celebrate and honor Earth as we like to each year on April 22nd. Our sacred lands are a gift, and it is our responsibility to protect them and ensure their enjoyment by all. I also want to remind readers to treat each day as indigenous people's day. Advocating for conservation means uplifting their voices, knowledge, and wisdom. All flourishing is mutual, and iIt's human perception that makes the world a gift. To mend our bond with Earth, we must rectify our oppressive and destructive colonial past.
