The Angeles Chapter is sponsoring an event to celebrate the life of leader and dedicated volunteer Lori Ives. We invite all who knew Lori to comment here and share their personal stories.

The celebration will be held 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Eaton Canyon Nature Center, 1750 N. Altadena Drive, Pasadena.

Sierra Club honors R.J. Secor

If you’ve done any amount of hiking or climbing in the Sierras, you’ve probably bought, borrowed or stole a copy of the guidebook "The High Sierra: Peaks, Passes, and Trails" by
R.J. Secor. That “bible of the Sierras” has guided untold numbers to discover and explore the wonderful peaks and hidden gems of the high Sierra range.

Chapter volunteers who made a difference in 2013

Each year the Angeles Chapter Sierra Club gives awards to volunteers who have shown an outstanding commitment to the club's political, conservation and outings mission. The Chapter's 2014 Awards Banquet will take place Sunday, May 4, at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena. (Click here for more information.) Inner City Outings gets $15,000 grant from Mark Taper Foundation

Angeles Chapter Inner City Outings received a much needed grant of $15,000 from the S. Mark Taper Foundation in December 2013. The grant will fund 28 day hikes, service project outings, or tide pooling trips for elementary and secondary school youngsters. These outings will serve approximately 625 youngsters from our poorest neighborhoods.

Ocean desalination, the bigger picture

As we look back on 2013 to gauge our progress in protecting the environment, one bright spot is the progress made regarding ocean desalination. At the beginning of the year, there were 16 ocean desalination projects being considered throughout California. Many of these projects were very controversial due their potential impact on the environment, high costs and lack of public support.
