Resolve to get involved with Sierra Club

The Sierra Club Angeles Chapter is working on a variety of interesting projects in protecting local lands and upholding clean air and clean water standards — and we need your help this year.

Volunteer to help rate local cities for their efforts on environmental conservation. Work as a group or volunteer from home. Be involved with your city or at the county level. Opportunities include social gatherings, meeting with local lawmakers and making calls from home.

A Better Way To Find Sierra Club Events

The Sierra Club has launched a new web page to help you find Sierra Club events and outings. The new site called OARS lets you look for events and outings as a listing, on a map or on a calendar. Search tools allow you to look for things to do within a certain geographic area, on selected dates, by the type of activity, by the leaders and Sierra Club groups involved.

Port Rail Yard Plan Deficient

After almost ten years of planning, a lot of studies and negotiations, the Los Angeles Harbor Department has circulated its Draft Environmental Impact Report of more than 2000 pages for an expanded rail yard, the Southern California International Gateway.

This rail yard will receives trucks from the Port of Los Angeles and transfer them to BNSF railcars with hours of operation paralleling those of the port, which can run day and night seven days a week.

Every year, the Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club holds elections to select new representatives to its governing bodies. All Sierra Club members who live in the Angeles Chapter area are eligible to vote. By voting, you participate in governing the Chapter.

This year, voting begins on November 15 and ceases on December 14, 2011.
