The theme for this year’s awards is Make a Splash for Water Conservation  focusing on water use and efficiency as we work to save water in California cities and coastal communities.

We are honoring recipients of the 2012 Political Leadership Awards whose works for water quality and water conservation have been unparalleled:

·  Alan Lowenthal, California State Senator - Led the fight to clean up diesel air pollution from ports.

·  Mike Feuer, California State Assemblymember - Authored law to require major statewide water conservation.

·  Ed Reyes, Los Angeles City Councilmember - Key player in Los Angeles River revitalization; Chair of LA River Committee.

·  H. David Nahai, Senior Advisor to the Clinton Climate Initiative  - Former Chair of the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, Former General Manager and Commission President, LA Department of Water and Power

·  Alan Sieroty, Former California State Senator - Authored the California Coastal Protection Act, among other environmental laws.

·  Michael Cacciotti, Mayor of South Pasadena - Numerous actions for clean air, including serving on AQMD Board.

·  Jerry Patterson, Orange Coast Community College Trustee - Led effort for LEED green college buildings; greatly increased recycling on campus

·  Doug Stern, Rancho Palos Verdes City Council - The key leader on City Council for acquiring 1500 acre nature preserve.

The Sierra Club is dedicating this event in memory of Peter M. Douglas, former Executive Director of the CA Coastal Commission.  The preservation of our magnificent coastline simply wouldn't have happened without the work of Peter Douglas.

This annual event draws many of our environmental supporters and political leaders from throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Great food, drinks, and a silent auction are sure to spice up this event.

A CoolHaus gourmet ice cream truck will be onsite to serve up desserts.

So Save the Date and join the Angeles Chapter’s fun-filled and memorable celebration on August 26, 2012.

Sincerely,

The Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Political Committee
