Moderate 5 mi, 1200’ gain to view San Fernando Valley. Meet 7 PM at trailhead (take 405 Fwy to 118 Fwy W, exit Balboa N, 2 mi to Sesnon W 1 mi to Neon Way, R to end of street). Bring water, lug soles and flashlight. Rain cancels.

Moderate 8 mi rt to Spunky Cyn along PCT. 1500’ gain with gorgeous views of Bouquet Reservoir and hillsides. Meet 9 AM at S-end of Newhall Ave. Take I-5 to 114 Fwy, exit Newhall Ave, turn R to end. Carpool/caravan 45 min. to trailhead. Bring water, lunch, lug soles and fsp. Rain cancels.

Sun, Mar 25 Soledad Canyon to Vasquez Rocks 9AM
Moderate 9 mi, 800’ gain hike along PCT in Agua Dulce with observation of the faulting process from the San Andreas Fault. Lunch at the famous film site Vasquez Rocks, named after the notorious bandit, Tiburcio Vasquez. Meet 9 AM at the Canyon Country rideshare. Carpool 15 min to Vasquez Rocks and then car shuttle to trailhead. Bring water, lunch and lug soles. Rain cancels.

Easy 3 mi, 500’ gain stroll in Whitney Cyn Park on the Rim of the Valley Corridor along the north slope of the San Gabriel Mts. This quiet park provides an excellent example of oak woodlands and chaparral and riparian vegetation. Meet 9 AM at the south end of Newhall Ave in Santa Clarita. Take I-5 to 14 Fwy (Antelope Valley Fwy), 1st exit Newhall Ave, R to carpool area. Bring water and snack. Rain cancels.

Moderate 10 mi, 2300’ gain from Devil’s Punchbowl County Park along the steep west slopes of Cruthers Creek to Burkhart Saddle. Interesting backside of San Gabriels from desert sage and Joshua tree through pinyon forest into Jeffrey pines. Slopes should be covered in wild flowers. Meet 8:00 AM at Canyon Country Rideshare or 9:00 AM at trailhead in Devil’s Punchbowl parking lot. Bring water, lunch, lug soles, and fsp. Rain cancels.

Easy 4 mi RT, 500’ gain hike to Mt. Pinos (8847’), the highest peak in Ventura County. Potluck dinner at summit and back to trailhead by dark. Meet 3:00 PM in North Valencia by Embassy Suites. (Take I-5 N, exit at Hwy126/Newhall Ranch Rd, turn right E at exit to Vanderbuilt Way (first light), R to Westinghouse, turn R and park on street) or 4 PM at Mt. Pinos Parking Lot. Bring water, dinner and side dish or dessert to share, plate, eating and serving utensils, flashlight, jacket and fsp. Rain cancels.
