SIERRA CLUB WAIVER
All Sierra Club Outings require that you sign an "Acknowledgment of Outing Member Responsibility, Express Assumption of Risk, and Release of Liability" before you can participate in the outing. In addition, if a minor is going on the trip, the minor's guardian must sign on the minor's behalf.

Moderate 7 mi 1500' gain hike via Little Jimmy CG. Great views of Crystal Lake on one side, far ranging desert on other. This is bighorn sheep country. 1 hr to trailhead. Wed, July 16 Mission Peak Moonlight Conditioning Hike 7PM

Moderate 5 mi, 1200’ gain to view San Fernando Valley. Meet 7 PM at trail head (take 405 Fwy to 118 Fwy W, exit Balboa N, 2 mi to Sesnon, W 1 mi to Neon Way, R to end of street). Bring water, lug soles and flashlight.
Sat, July 19th, Whitney Cyn Park: a Wild Heritage Hike 8AM

Moderate 4 mi, 600' gain in new park along N slope of San Gabriel Mtns. Very neat bubbling sulfur spring, and if we're lucky, waterfalls at the end. Meet 8 am S end of San Fernando Rd in Santa Clarita. From San Fernando/Los Angeles, take I-5 N to CA-14 N (Antelope Valley Fwy), exit San Fernando Rd., go R (south) to ride share parking area. Bring water, snack, lugsoles. Rain cancels.
Sun, July 27 Elsmere Canyon: A Wild Heritage Hike 9AM

Moderate 4 mi, 500’ gain in historic canyon that was recently saved from becoming a landfill and now proposed as a wilderness area. Frequent stream crossings. Meet 9 AM at the south end of San Fernando Rd. in Newhall. Take I-5 to 14 Fwy N (Antelope Valley Fwy), exit at San Fernando Rd., R (south) to park and ride area. Bring water, lunch, lug soles and long pants.

Sat, Aug 16 Santa Clarita River Twilight Stroll 6PM

Easy 3-4 mi stroll along the Santa Clara River with discussion on the effects from development to this vital water resource and wildlife corridor. Meet 6 PM at Pavilions Shopping Center located on corner of McBean Pkwy/Magic Mountain Pkwy. in Santa Clarita (take I-5 N, exit at Valencia Blvd., turn R (east), then L (north) on McBean Pkwy. Turn L at first stoplight past Magic Mountain Pkwy. into Pavilions Shopping Center. Meet at far north side by River. Bring water, flashlight and money for a refreshment stop.
Sun, Aug 17 Annual Fundraiser Party 2:30PM- 7:30PM
Our fun-fun-fun annual blowout will be at the Schultz’s from 2:30PM to 7:30PM. Donation of $20 for individual or $30 for family. The money raised keeps us running for another year. Pool and spa available – bring swim suit and towels. Meet, greet and consume large quantities of everything. Main dishes, wine, beer and cordials provided. Easy 4 mi stroll through always beautiful Placerita Canyon. Possible water crossings through oak shaded creek bed. Meet 9 AM at Walker Ranch area of Placerita County Park. Bring water, snack and lug soles. Take 14-Fwy (Antelope Valley Fwy), exit Placerita Cyn Rd, go south to park and continue 1.7 mi past main entrance to gated entrance of Walker Ranch. Do not block gate.

Sun, Sept 14 Carpenteria Beach Walk and Outing 9AM

Come join us for a day at the beach. Meet 9 AM at Santa Clarita Ride share and carpool 1 ¼ hours to Carpenteria State Beach. We will walk to the Tarpits and Carpenteria Bluffs (3.5 mi, 0’ gain) and then spend the afternoon at the beach close to the day use parking area. Bring beach gear, bathing suit, chair, towel, and lunch. BBQ’s and changing rooms available.

Sat, Sept 20 River Rally 8AM – 11AM
Location: Wiley Canyon Road-off the Via Princessa Bridge (East of Orchard Village Road)
Help maintain a portion of the Santa Clara River - the last natural river in Southern California! We will provide gloves, trash bags, snacks, and special giveaways for participating. Visit the Environmental Expo to learn more about sustainability issues including: recycling, air quality, water conservation, pollution prevention, open space preservation, and more! Ride your bicycle to River Rally and let us watch your bike for you. A free bike valet service will be provided courtesy of LA County Bicycle Coalition, so your bicycles are monitored while you participate! Please remember, NO PETS are allowed. As you know this is an excellent volunteer opportunity for Scout troops, youth groups, and the entire family! Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes (NO SANDALS) and appropriate clothing for walking in the riverbed, sunscreen, and a hat. Carpooling, biking and walking are highly encouraged as parking space is limited. Call Henry at 284-5613 if you would like to help us man our booth.

Sun, Oct 5 Fish Canyon – A Wild Heritage Hike 9AM

Moderate 6-8 mi hike, 300’ gain with stream crossings in proposed wilderness area north of Lake Castaic. Meet 9 AM at Santa Clarita Ride share Carpool/caravan ½ hour to trailhead. Bring water, lunch, lug soles.
