Join in the all-time favorite, easy, relaxing, and scenic paddle. Great for beginners and experts alike, it is a wonderful run, with twists and turns opening into majestic mountain views. Along the way, it is not uncommon to see a variety of birdlife, beavers, cows, and fishermen. Aside from the ideal setting to work on paddling skills, the trip allows for perfecting your potluck creativity and excellence for the Saturday night event. Tuolumne River - Salmon Petting
Sat-Sun
Yes, the salmon are close enough to pet. This Class II section of the Tuolumne is near Modesto, so if you are thinking of the Class IV and V stuff, much further up the river, stop thinking about it. This does require boat turning skills; it is mostly slow moving water (mostly shallow) with no rapids, although there are some sharp turns with fast current, some tree branches over a few of the bends and one narrow S turn (that can be portaged).
If you are comfortable with the Owens River you should have no trouble on this run. Canoes, solo or tandem, and kayaks welcome.
We will camp at Turlock Recreation Area Campground on Friday and Saturday nights (campsite fee to be determined). Potluck dinner Sat. night to be determined. Send SASE or e-mail to leader with h/w phones.
