Our activities are open to the general public as well as Sierra Club members unless otherwise noted in the write-up. In order to participate on one of the Sierra Club's outings, you will need to sign a liability waiver. If you would like to read a copy of the waiver prior to the outing, please see Chapter and Group Outings Liability Waiver Form or call (415) 977-5528.
In the interest of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.

This is a jointly sponsored project with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy (PVPLC). Meet at the Forrestal Reserve at 8:00 AM and work until Noon. The fence being removed is chain-link with barbwire at the top. Fencing and poles will be cut down and removed from the Flying Mane Trail. It is taxing physical work. However, removing this old fencing vastly improves the experience of walking the adjacent trail. Strenuous hike, 10 mi, 8300' gain to tram with additional 10 mi rt, 2400' gain to the peak. Very early start. It was too hot in July, so we’ve rescheduled our annual hike again when it's cooler. We'll attempt to have two groups, hopefully both SJ bound, one faster, the other naturalizing along the way. Of course, any who wish can head back down at the tram after a mere 8300' gain. Start the New Year out right with a 10-mile loop hike in beautiful Santa Ynez Canyon. Elevation gain is 1,400 feet. No beginners or tigers. Bring water, lunch, and lugsoles. Meet at 8:30am at the trailhead, which can be reached from the Santa Monica Fwy (10). Drive north on PCH to Sunset; go right or east on Sunset 0.3 mile; turn left onto Palisades Dr. and continue up hill for 2.4 miles. Turn left on Vereda de la Montura, and proceed down a short hill, which ends at the entrance to the trail. Street parking is available. Heavy rain cancels. Get inspired in the New Year by hiking to Inspiration Point. We'll start at the Cobb Estate, go up the Sam Merrill Trail, and pass Echo Mountain, following the historical train stations along the way. We'll pass Mount Lowe Trail Camp and onto Inspiration Point for some amazing views and possibly some wild flowers. We'll finish the hike coming down Castle Canyon Trial to our starting point. 11.5 mi, 2800' gain; meet at 8:00 am at the intersection of Lake Ave and Loma Alta Dr in Altadena - 3.6 miles north of Interstate 210 via Lake Ave. Free curbside parking is abundant in the neighborhood. Rideshare Fri to stay in a cabin in the Wawona area near Yosemite's south entrance. Join leaders for low intermediate xcntry ski each day at Badger Pass and other areas. On your own you can downhill or track ski, snow shoe, ice skate or simply explore Yosemite Valley in the winter. Join us on an unforgettable journey to premier hiking destinations in New Zealand's North and South Islands. You'll experience stunning, varied landscapes – lush rain forests, gushing geysers, limestone cliffs, and icy glaciers on the snow-capped Southern Alps. The leader, who lived in New Zealand for 9 years, selected her favorite day hikes for this unique adventure. You will have an opportunity to participate in short hikes (2-4 miles) and longer hikes (6-10 miles) during the course of the trip. 7 days/6 nights. Join us for visiting and hiking the beautiful Hudson River Valley of New York State. See FDR's home and library, Eleanor Roosevelt's Val Kill, the Vanderbilt Estate, Staatsburgh State Historic Site, and Hudson School Landscape Painter Frederic Church's Olana. Take a steep hike, 1,000 feet gain in 1.75 miles, to a giant ledge looking south over the Catskill and then a short easy hike to the state's highest waterfall Kaaterskill. Walk the "Walkway over the Hudson" 1.25 mile one way, 220 feet up, a train trestle converted to walking bridge that crosses the Hudson River. Spend some time hiking on a strenuous section of the Appalachian Trail, 4 miles 1,000 feet gain, within Bear Mountain State Park.
