Los Angeles, CA - The Sierra Club Endangered Species Committee and its local chapter, along with the U.S. Humane Society, Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Canada Goose Project/ Migration Foundation will co-host the fourth "Re-Enchanting the City" conference entitled: "Wildlife Corridors of the Sky, the Earth, and the Water".
This year's theme focuses on the impacts of expanding urban transportation grids on native wildlife habitats, and the ways in which state and federal agencies are designing these grids to maximize continued wildlife transits. Ron Kosinski, Director of CALTRANS's environmental planning division, will be a featured presenter during the morning program. Eight workshops examining various urban wildlife issues within the LA Basin and on a regional scale comprise the afternoon segment of the conference. One of the highlighted workshops, to be jointly facilitated by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and the California Home Builders Association, will discuss how these organizations have collaborated to plan and mitigate residential development near ecologically sensitive areas. The entire day's events will kick off with a traditional Chumash welcoming ceremony at 8:30 a.m., led by Chumash spiritual leader Mati Waiya. "Montana Jim" Cole, a longtime grizzly bear advocate and photographer, will also be in attendance to lead a workshop on the state of the Yellowstone grizzly population.
