THIS LAND IS OUR LAND
2015 POLITICAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS
CHINO HILLS STATE PARK DISCOVERY CENTER
4500 CARBON CANYON ROAD, BREA CA 92823
Join the Angeles Chapter PAC on Sunday, 16 August 2015 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM for a celebration of our parks and open spaces. This Land is Our Land from the newly-designated San Gabriel Mountains National Monument to over 27 National Parks, 270 State Park and Reserve park units, and uncounted county, city, and pocket parks. These are the legacy left to us by John Muir. We are delighted to honor environmental leaders who have continued to carry the promise of John Muir forward.
The recipients of the 2015 Political Leadership Award:
Claire Schlotterbeck, Executive Director, Hills for Everyone: For over 30 years, Ms. Schlotterbeck led the effort to establish the 14,100 acre Chino Hills State Park that today lies at the juncture of four of the State’s most rapidly growing and urbanized counties.
Anthony Rendon, CA State Assemblyman, AD63: During his first term, Mr. Rendon chaired the Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee and authored Proposition 1, the $7.5 billion state water bond passed by voters in the November 2014 election. Now in his second term, he continues to advocate for clean water, clean government, and a clean start for children.
Nanette Barragán, Hermosa Beach City Councilwoman: Ms. Barragán is the first Latina ever elected to the Hermosa Beach City Council where she was a leader in the successful fight against Measure O, a ballot measure that would have allowed oil companies to drill in the Santa Monica Bay.
Eduardo Garcia, CA State Assemblyman, AD56: Mr. Garcia was elected to the CA State Assembly in November 2014. Previously he served as the Mayor of Coachella where he directed large citywide park renovation, expanding green space, and health and wellness programs.
Todd Gloria, San Diego City Councilman, District 3: While serving as interim mayor of the city, Mr. Gloria drafted a bold and progressive climate action plan that sets aggressive emissions reduction targets, invests in renewable energy and community choice aggregation, and begins the shift to a more bicycle-friendly, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use city. Since returning to the City Council, Mr. Gloria has continued to advocate for final passage of this draft CAP.
