SEND BILL HEDRICK TO THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The Sierra Club endorses Bill Hedrick, candidate for the 44th Congressional District, which includes parts of Riverside County and South Orange County. Cities and communities in the South Orange County region of the district include Cota de Caza, Las Flores, Ladera Ranch, San Juan Capistrano, and San Clemente. In 2008, Bill Hedrick came within 2% of unseating 15-year incumbent Ken Calvert. While actually beating Calvert in Riverside, Bill fell short in Orange County and lost by 6,100 votes. While serving on the Board of Education for the Corona-Norco Unified District, Bill demanded that action be taken to test for and remove toxic pollutants from school sites. He also objected to a proposed expressway in Riverside County that would have enabled a highway tunnel project through the Cleveland National Forest into Orange County. As well, he objected to the extension of the 241 South Toll Road in Orange County, one of Sierra Club’s top campaign efforts. Bill has always opposed offshore drilling in California and elsewhere. He’s a strong supporter of green jobs for our local economy, and supports research and development of green alternative fuels and technologies that utilize solar, wind, and geothermal power. Hedrick supports additional resources to encourage public transportation and to develop comprehensive, integrated infrastructure to reduce dependence on private cars and reduce the effects of harmful greenhouse gases. The Club’s Orange County Political Committee and San Gorgonio Chapter believe that Bill is a viable candidate who will be a strong advocate for the environment in Washington D.C. |
