In the interests of facilitating the logistics of some outings, it is customary that participants make carpooling arrangements. The Sierra Club does not have insurance for carpooling arrangements and assumes no liability for them. Carpooling, ride sharing or anything similar is strictly a private arrangement among the participants. Participants assume the risks associated with this travel.

August 6 Monthly Meeting

     Mike McIntyre, district ranger for the Los Angeles River Ranger District of Angeles National Forest, presents a slide-illustrated program concerning current plans for restoring rock-strewn Rubio Canyon above Altadena, and will provide an update on other environmental issues in his ranger district.
     Information is available on the group's hikes, outings, and conservation activities. Newcomers are always welcome. Social hour begins at 7:00 pm, program starts at 7:30 pm.

August 9 East Fork San Gabriel River - Hike and Protect

Join us on a summer hike along the E. Fork of the San Gabriel River as we follow it north into the Sheep Mountain Wilderness. You will see the shortage of resources that thousands of visitors experience and you will have the opportunity to take a small action to help improve the health of the river. 6 miles rt., 700' gain. There will be stream crossings and boulder-hopping, so you are likely to get wet. Meet 8:30 am at the Azusa rideshare point. Bring sturdy shoes, sun protection, water and lunch.

Northern Yosemite Lakes & Canyons

Challenging 52 mile shuttle trip, 4000' gain backpack beginning at Glen Aulin trailhead and ending at Twin Lakes through beautiful northern Yosemite backcountry. Starting at Tuolomne Meadows, we'll begin a long downhill stretch through Glen Aulin down the Grand Canyon of the Tuolomne to Pate Valley. Then north to Bear Valley for a short stay at Bear Valley Lake, one of the finest swimming lakes in the Sierras. North through Kerrick Canyon for another short stay at beautiful, isolated Arndt Lake. We'll complete the journey through Rock Island Pass for our final descent to Twin Lakes. Magnificent streams, beautiful vistas, powerful waterfalls, tranquil lakes and unparalleled beauty will provide you with years of memories of both the grandeur of the Sierras and the challenge of the adventure. August 16 Moonlight Hike to Mt Lowe from Eaton Saddle

Enjoy night views above LA Basin on moderate 4 mile, 500'gain hike to historic peak in front range. Meet 7:00 pm La Caņada rideshare point with water, snack, hiking boots, flashlight.

August 23 Mt. Williamson (8214') and nearby airplane crash site

Great mountain and desert views on this 10 mile, 2400' gain, 800' loss moderately paced hike. The latter part of the hike is on a use trail along a saddle with a drop/gain of about 300' on loose soil. Exploration of the site itself will be restricted to the ridge immediately above it to avoid any risk to participants. Meet 8:00 am La Caņada rideshare point with sufficient water, lunch, hiking boots, suitable clothing layers. Rain cancels.

Mammoth Lakes Backpack Bus Trip

Leave LA Friday evening for 3 day moderate-plus level bkpk. Saturday hike from Agnew Meadows on River Trail 7 mile (1,500' gain) to base camp (2 magnificent nights) at Rosalie Lake (9,250') passing Shadow Lake en route. Sunday layover day for optional hike. Monday continue on John Muir Trail 8 mile (300' gain, 1,600' loss) to meet bus. Mammoth Lakes Bus Lodge Trip

Not a backpack. Join us as we hike and sightsee at spectacular Mammoth Lakes. No beginners. Leave Friday afternoon, return Monday evening. Moderate hiking with great views. See famous tufa towers at Mono Lake (nominal entrance fee). Relax at night with dining, dancing, self-guided evening walks. Space is very limited.
