02/09/10 Tue Conditioned Hikers?Tapia Park-Malibu Creek State Park-Paramount Ranch Rating:   O
Strenuous 11 mi rt, 1300' gain hike in rolling hills to Paramount and Regan Ranch movie sets or around Malibu Lake Village. Meet 8:30 am at Tapia Park fee parking area (PCH W 8˝ mi from Sunset Blvd to Las Virgenes/Malibu Cyn Rd. Park is 4 mi from PCH or 5˝ mi from Ventura Fwy, just N of Piuma Rd traffic light). Bring water, lunch. Rain cancels.

Strenuous 2 hr, 5-8 mi conditioning hikes on flat/hilly streets/trails to explore fauna/terrain in San Pedro/PV. Not for beginners. Arrive early. Leaves 6:30 pm every Tue from 8th and Averill, San Pedro. Wear lugsoles, bring red lens flashlight. Rain cancels.

Easy, moderate and tiger paced hikes, 4-7 mi rt on trail in hills. Meet 6:30 pm every Tue and Thu (take 405 Fwy, exit S on Jeffrey/University, L at Ridgeline, L at Turtle Rock, pass Sunnyhill, L into parking lot of Turtle Rock Community Park). Bring water, light hiking boots with lugs, flashlight.

Moderate 1˝ hour 4 mi hike on the greenbelt and hilly streets of Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Arrive early. Leave 7 pm every Tue from the far end of the parking lot of the Hermosa Valley School (1645 Valley Dr). Bring red lens flashlight. Rain cancels.

Come and hear about one of the most endangered habitats in the West. It's disappearing fast. Richard Halsey, the director of the California Chaparral Institute, will show us how local habitat has influenced the development of civilization and what needs to be done for this unique habitat to endure. We meet 7:30 pm at the Irvine Ranch Water District HQ at 15601 Sand Cyn in Irvine between the 5 and 405 Fwys. Refreshments served.
