The August 3, 2009 OMC Meeting minutes were approved without corrections.
- Notices
- Randall Danta has notified Kent Schwitkis that the Mountain Bike Committee
will be dissolved.
- Committee Reports
- Treasurer and International Trips Liaison - written report.
- WTC - 9/15 opening registration - 58 students enrolled to date - lower than last year.
- LTC - Tina Bowman. LTC Seminar held Saturday - 60 attendees. The next seminar will be
4/10/09.
- Safety Committee - held meeting - discussed Griffith Park. WTC plans to adopt a new
safety policy, but not imminent.
- LOSC - Sherry has resigned from LOSC. The Los Padres Chapter has a new Outings Chair
and is conducting a Wilderness Basics Course. The Cascade Chapter ran a hike-a-thon and
raised $6,000. National has put a moratorium on hike-a-thons, developing a policy, may
approve on a case-by-case basis.
- Conservation - John Hinz. Encourage comments to the Park Service on the management of
the San Gabriel Mountains.
- Ombudsman - Bill Jackson. No report.
- Bus Transportation - Joel Goldberg. No report.
- First Aid Coordinator - Steve Goldstein - Written report.
- Land Manager - Patrick Vaughn - no report.
- ICO - Barbara Creighton - Ralph's and Albertson's have programs whereby customers using
their club cards can have donations directed to ICO - need to get the word out. Two of
our high school kids did a national service trip.
- Carbon Footprint - Sherry Ross - the article did not go in the Southern Sierra. Putting
meeting together in the fall. Controversial issue - nobody wants to reduce outings.
- Diversity TF - Melody Anderson - Melody attended conference on diversity, distributed
diversity survey at the LTC Seminar.
- Old Business
- Affiliation with Red Cross and SCMA - Kent Schwitkis - no change.
- Assembly subcommittee - discussed Agenda. Nominations for OMC: George Denny, Mary Morales,
Gabe Sende, Marc Hertz, Sylvia Dare, Karen Leverich, David Meltzer and Donna Specht.
Nominations for LTC: Beth Epstein and Melody Anderson.
- NSS Action Plan - NSS will discuss action plan at its management meeting 10/25/09.
- New Business / Action Items
- Station Fire - Bob Cates (by telephone). The Forest Service has closed all burn areas
until 9/30/10. Will have a major effect on outings. Building database of persons willing
to work on restoration project - 54 so far.
- WFA Refresher - John Hinz. No one is in place to do a WFA refresher course.
- Conservation conversation between John Hinz and Jane Simpson - did not take place.
- AWESOME - Angeles Web-based Support for Outings Management and Execution - Wolf Leverich
discussed.
- Ski Mountaineering Section - Kent Schwitkis will investigate rumors that it is dissolving.
