Candidate Melody Anderson

I am an O/Provisional I-rated leader. I have been leading trips for the Angeles Chapter for more than 3 years. Since 2006, I have served as an instructor for the Wilderness Travel Course. I am a certified Inner City Outings (ICO) leader for LA ICO and served as LA ICO's Vice Chair in 2008. In 2008, I also served as the ICO representative on the Chapter's Outings Management Committee (OMC), and currently serve as the alternate ICO representative on the OMC. (The ICO representative on the OMC alternates each year between LA ICO and OC ICO.) I also chair the OMC's Diversity Task Force. Later this year, I will train prospective ICO leaders for the Los Padres Chapter in ICO OLT 101. Additionally, I am a certified Leave No Trace (LNT) Trainer and regularly lead LNT Awareness Workshops as Chapter outings, which provide Environmental Awareness credit for prospective I/M/E-rated leaders.

As the Outings Representative on the Leadership Training Committee (LTC), my priority will be to increase diversity among the Chapter's outings leaders, including recruitment and training of younger and more racially- and ethnically-diverse leaders, and to make diversity-related training available to all Chapter outings leaders. I will also work toward increasing the awareness of Leave No Trace principles among all Chapter outings leaders.
