Candidate John Hinz

My 25 years as an outings leader for the Angeles Chapter have given me a wealth of experience on the issue of hiking safety. Something can always go wrong, and there have been 4 instances where an injury has occurred on one of my hikes. One of them involved a helicopter rescue. Naturally, I have taken the Wilderness First Aid course many times.

My Chapter experience began when I took the Basic Mountaineering Training Course. When that committee went dormant, I was a founding member of the Wilderness Training Committee as the Long Beach Area Chair, and am currently a WTC Group Leader (Group 2 - B/SB). I have also served as Outings Chair for the Long Beach Group, and continue as Outings Vice-Chair. I continue to lead O-, I-, and M-level trips for WTC and Long Beach, and also serve on several diverse committees in the Angeles Chapter.
