Candidate Silvia Darie

You've elected me as your representative to Outings Management Committee in 2006. It's been my pleasure to serve you. Your vote of confidence to allow me to continue representing you is appreciated.

I'm Silvia Darie.

I joined Sierra Club in 2002 and started hiking in 2002.

In 2003 I learned how to set up a tent and camp. I became O rated leader in 2003. I led my first camping trip in 2004. Since then I have led 6 camping trip for large groups, and about a hundred day hikes and other events. I coordinated multiple conservation events. I was a Captain for the Great Earth walk in 2004 which helped raise funds and awareness for environmental causes. I organized the First Annual Griffith Park Environmental Film Festival in 2007. I've led outings for Inner City Outings, 20s and 30s, San Fernando Valley Group, Crescenta Valley Group, Little Hikers, Backpacking Committee and will soon lead for Wilderness Adventures.

In 2004 I joined the 20s 30s Management and held positions as secretary, Vice Chair, membership and conservation coordinator, I was the 20s30s Outings Chair during the peak years of mid 2004 to early 2007 and brought back energy to the section. I am also a new member of the Management Committee for Crescenta Valley Group and Outings Chair for the same group.

I have been an active member and representative of the OMC since 2006.

To recognize my commitment to the 20s30s Section, to Crescenta Valley Group and to the Sierra Club I was awarded an Outings Service Award in 2006 and Special Service Award in 2007. The City of Los Angeles presented me with a "Certificate of Appreciation" for the Environmental Film Festival in 2007. In September 2007 I was sent to the National Sierra Club CLL Board of Directors meeting as an expert for the Forever Young initiative.

I am an O rated, Provisional I leader. At work, people call me "doc". I'm a physician.
