Candidate George DennyThank you for considering me as a candidate for the committee. The OMC has become a valuable entity within the Angeles Chapter and its huge and diverse outings program. Many challenges are and will be met head on by the committee such as new requirements from National Sierra Club, and by our national forest and national parks management, and others. These challenges can and will require re-examination of current policies and procedures in safety, leader training, and entity management. I would be proud to serve as a member of the OMC. Many of you know me already, but for those who don't a brief resume of applicable experience follows. I've been a member of the Sierra Club since 1982, and an outings leader since 1990 and "I" rated since 1984. Since then I have led many outings such as backpacks, day hikes, bike rides, and car camps. I have been asked to evaluate a number of leaders and prospective leaders for their "I" and "O" ratings. Mostly I've led for the Wilderness Adventures Section, Backpacking Committee, Orange County Sierra Singles, and as a Wilderness Training Committee management member and treasurer. Also, in the last five years, I was elected by the chapter membership to serve on the Executive Committee and was appointed chapter treasurer. I also served as a member of the chapter staff as acting director and as chapter coordinator for nearly two and one half years. Many opportunities await. As Sierra Club members, we must continue to encourage cultural diversity, and increase membership. We must attend to the conservation and preservation of the places we love. The Angeles Chapter outings program is the biggest and best in the club, and is well suited to forward these with clearly defined goals. Again, I would be proud to serve as a member of the OMC. Thank you. |
