Sierra Club Angeles Chapter Partners with Swell Energy to Provide Clean Energy Incentives and Power Reliability to Members in Southern California

By installing solar and energy storage systems at their residences, Sierra Club members have an opportunity to protect and restore the environment while helping build a more resilient power grid

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 6, 2022 – The Sierra Club Angeles Chapter announced today a partnership with Swell Energy Inc. (Swell), a renewable energy and advanced grid services company, to do well by doing good and build a cleaner electric grid. By installing a home solar and energy storage system or adding energy storage to existing solar panels, Sierra Club members can lead the effort to develop local, renewable energy solutions in southern California and help support their local Sierra Club Chapter. Eligible customers can also enroll in Swell Energy’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) in Orange County that is supported by Southern California Edison (SCE), and extend the benefits of their home solar and energy storage through this innovative opportunity that pays customers for participation.

"Our partnership with Swell enhances our existing work on promoting climate resiliency and renewable energy, enabling Sierra Club members to be the change they want to see in their communities,” said Sharon Koch, former chair of the Angeles Chapter Executive Committee. “By building clean energy resources on our homes and joining a network of other solar and storage homeowners, for the first time we can join an effort to collectively transition away from traditional fossil power.”

As California regulators continue to debate the future of the state’s rooftop solar program, it is expected that incentive levels will likely decrease later this year. Because of these pending changes, rooftop solar installation numbers are increasing across the state, making this window of opportunity especially valuable for homeowners. By adopting solar and battery storage solutions, members can help meet the region's increased electric demand, improve air quality, contribute to climate solutions, and help raise funds for the Sierra Club.

“Cleaner alternatives are taking hold and Swell is proud of our efforts to build a more renewable and democratic energy system,” said Suleman Khan, CEO of Swell. “By joining forces with the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter to establish a regional VPP and provide members GridRevenue™ we are catalyzing a cleaner environment for future generations.”

The two organizations are aligned in their efforts to enable increased renewable energy penetration and enlist the support of communities to protect and restore the environment. The opportunity to help our communities transition away from traditional power plants of the past and build a clean energy future is here.
