MEET OUR NEW SENIOR CHAPTER DIRECTOR

The Angeles Chapter is delighted to welcome Morgan Goodwin as its new Senior Director. Morgan's history of climate activism, mountain climbing, community-building and public service will benefit the Chapter both in our current moment of crisis and in the longer-term effort to explore, enjoy and protect our world.

Originally from the Adirondacks of New York, Morgan grew up hiking, canoeing and cross country skiing. He spent three years on the US National Development team for Nordic Combined in Utah before attending Williams College back East. At Williams he served in student government, ski raced and began his journey as a climate activist by creating a student group which joined the Sierra Student Coalition.

Prior to joining Chapter leadership, Morgan spent the last 10 years working for Avaaz, a global campaigning organization, running campaigns and building technical tools to support large-scale organizing. While working for Avaaz, Morgan moved to Truckee, California to be in the mountains, and fell in love with the community. His 7 years in Truckee included running for Town Council in 2014 and becoming the youngest councilmember ever in Truckee. In 2017 as mayor, Morgan signed Truckee's 100% clean energy commitment and helped move the town significantly toward sustainability. He also started a non-profit makerspace, the Truckee Roundhouse, which provides members access to fully equipped shops to work with wood, metal, ceramics, textiles and electronics. Morgan also regularly attends Burning Man where he serves as a Ranger, runs a small theme camp, and has assisted with large art projects.

In 2019, Morgan and his fiancée Daria made the decision to move to Los Angeles to pursue avenues for greater climate and political impact at the city and regional levels. In his spare time, Morgan enjoys exploring the city by bike and hiking to our cherished Sierra Club landmarks and summits. He looks forward to building on the rich history of the Angeles Chapter and bringing his energy and skills to the work ahead.

Congratulations and welcome to the Angeles Chapter. Have you had any experience herding cats?

Hi Morgan, Your background is impressive and certainly unique. I was the immediate past chair of Airport Marina Group of the Angeles Chapter. My focus is on saving 640 acres of wildlife habitat in the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve from proposed industrial scale bulldozing. I look forward to meeting you after the Pandemic.
