Attacks on the Clean Water Act, attempts to reduce automobile fuel standards, efforts to roll back environmental regulations put in place to protect our land, our people, and our wildlife … these are actions we have seen since January 2017.  Wait there are more, such as selling off public lands to fossil fuel interests, cutting the size of national monuments, crippling the Endangered Species Act.  What can an individual do to counter the onslaught? We all have one very powerful tool at our disposal: We can exercise our right to vote.

The Nov. 6 mid-term election is an opportunity for environmental voters to band together and make our voices heard. We can elect candidates who will support the environment. Let no one tell you that your vote does not count. In recent elections in Orange and Los Angeles counties, candidates were elected to office by less than 300 votes, less than 200 votes, less than 100 votes, and even less than 25 votes!  Be sure to cast your ballot by 8 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2018.

Not sure if you are registered to vote?

You can check your voter registration status on the following websites:

California Secretary of State: https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/

Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters: https://www.lavote.net/home/voting-elections/voter-registration/register-to-vote/register

Orange County Registrar of Voters: https://www.ocvote.com/registration/

Where can I register to vote?

You may submit your voter registration application online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov. You can also pick up a paper application at your county elections office, any Department of Motor Vehicles field office, and many post offices, public libraries, and government offices. To have an application mailed to you, call your county elections office or the Secretary of State's toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683).

The California Motor Voter program is making registering to vote at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) more convenient. Eligible applicants completing a driver license, identification (ID) card or change of address transaction online, by mail or in person at the DMV will be automatically registered to vote by the California Secretary of State, unless they choose to opt out of automatic voter registration.
