Many Southern Californians may not be aware of something happening in their own backyard. A billion-dollar desalination plant, the most expensive and environmentally-damaging way to secure Orange County's future water supply, is planned for Huntington Beach.

For 15 years, Poseidon Water has spent more than $1.6 million on lobbying and campaign contributions while seeking approval to build the desalination plant in Huntington Beach. Sierra Club and other opposition to the plant has led to Poseidon taking desperate measures to move the project forward, including hiring former California Sen. Barbara Boxer and former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez as celebrity lobbyists to promote the project to state regulators and legislators.

Join us in opposing the desalination plant at 5:30 p.m. July 18. at the Orange County Water District Office in Fountain Valley. We need people to tell the water board NOT to enter into any agreements to buy water from Poseidon. Details here.

Orange County doesn’t need Poseidon’s overpriced water. A 2016 Water Reliability Study by the Municipal Water District of Orange County shows the water from the project is not needed, and that there are other less costly and environmentally superior sources for future water supplies. Poseidon’s water would cost more than twice as much as imported water and six times the cost of groundwater.
