Hello fellow environmental partners.

Can you help us spread the word about this important event?

On Saturday, February 17th, 10am – 12pm, the Torrance Refinery Action Alliance (TRAA) will hold a rally and march in Torrance to ban HF and MHF (Modified Hydrofluoric Acid) at the Torrance and Wilmington refineries, the only ones in California which use this highly toxic and dangerous chemical in their alkylation process.  Link to rally flyer for print or download.

The explosion 3 years ago at the Torrance Refinery (then Exxon Mobile) was a wake-up call, since the tank containing 50,000 lbs. of MHF was nearly crashed by falling debris, and if struck, would have caused a catastrophic event, by releasing the MHF, and creating a deadly, ground hugging, toxic cloud in our densely populated communities. There are much safer alternatives now being used at other refineries that could be employed.

The TRAA is spreading the word to get as many folks as possible out to participate in the Rally & March at Columbia Park, located at 4045 190th St., Torrance, CA 90504.  It will be a family friendly event.

Thank you for helping us get the word out to your members to send the message to local leaders to ban HF & MHF in our communities!

Sincerely,

Louise Fleming
Sierra Club and TRAA Partner Volunteer
