On May 14, thousands of Californians marched in downtown Los Angeles demanding an end to the dirty and dangerous fossil fuel era.

The Sierra Club was proud to join environmental justice leaders from the coalition Standing Together Against Neighborhood Drilling (STAND-L.A.) and other local and statewide partners in demanding that city and state officials protect our communities by ending neighborhood oil drilling and other toxic dirty fuel projects, and pursue a just transition to 100% clean energy.

Starting with a rally at L.A. City Hall, activists and supporters marched to the headquarters of Southern California Gas Co, where the group Save Porter Ranch joined in. The group also protested the company’s reckless disregard for public health and our environment, and demanding that the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility -- site of the largest methane leak in U.S. history --be shut down for good.

With partners and participants from Oakland to San Diego coming to the rally, the message was clear: It’s time to protect our health, protect our environment, and "Keep It In The Ground!"
