Paul Loeb, who continues to influence a generation of activists with his book "Soul of a Citizen," will be the keynote speaker at a Sierra Club Angeles Chapter fund-raising event March 1.

"Mission: Possible -- A Conversation With Paul Loeb" will be held 2 to 5 p.m. in a beautiful Hagy Belzberg-designed home nestled in the canyon above Beverly Hills. All are invited to attend.

"Seeing and hearing Paul Loeb speak will inspire anyone who has lost hope or feels powerless against climate change and other environmental challenges," says George Watland, senior director of the Angeles Chapter Sierra Club.

The afternoon also will celebrate the Chapter's volunteers, past and current, who make the impossible possible. Among those being honored are the Inspiring Connections Outdoors Committee, and California Desert Protection Act activists Judy Anderson and Jim Dodson, who will talk about the struggles to protect the state's deserts.

At the event, Loeb will discuss his latest book "The Impossible Will Take a Little While: A Citizens' Guide to Hope in a Time of Fear." It's a collection of essays of hope from writers and activists such as Bill McKibben, the founder of 350.org, and Mary Pipher, who, with a handful of her Nebraska friends, successfully launched a national resistance campaign to stop the Keystone XL pipeline project.

Guests will have an opportunity to speak with Loeb, ask questions, get autographs and snap the inevitable selfie. "Soul of a Citizen" has become a handbook for those truly inspired to do good. It has been described as "a book of inspiration and integrity, an antidote to the twin scourges of modern life--powerlessness and cynicism."

Loeb has spent more than 30 years researching and writing about citizen responsibility and empowerment -- asking what makes some people choose lives of social commitment while others abstain.
