Sierra Club President Michael Brune and Chief Executive Officer Ruskin Hartley of Heal the Bay discuss the impact of John Muir's vision for modern environmentalism at an event free to the public this month. Brune and Hartley, heads of their respective environmental organization, celebrate Muir's legacy, examine how the movement has evolved, and discuss who is leading the charge in the 21st century.

Muir (1838-1914) founded the Sierra Club in 1892. As proof of his legacy, he has been selected as recipient of this year's Green Prize for Sustainable Literature Pioneer Award. The prize has been established by the Santa Monica Public Library to complement the strong commitment to sustainability established by the City of Santa Monica.

Join us for this event 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the MLK Jr. Auditorium, Santa Monica Main Public Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica. The program is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and awarded on a first come, first served basis. For more information contact the library at (310) 458-8600 or visit smpl.org online. A book sale and reception with refreshments from Real Food Daily follows the program.
