National Geographic has named Stacy Bare, director of Sierra Club Outdoors (left), as one of its Adventurers of the Year. The  decorated U.S. Army veteran who served in Bosnia and Iraq was selected in recognition of his work to get fellow veterans outside.

He was nominated alongside former Army Ranger Nick Watson (right), with whom he co-founded the organization Veterans Expeditions.

Members of the public (i.e., you) can vote between now and January 21 to decide who will be the People's Choice Adventurer of the Year.
